Tokyo Gore Police (2008)
Director: Yoshihiro Nishimura (Vampire Girl vs. Frankenstein Girl), special effects on Strange Circus.
Starring: Eihi Shiina (Audition), Itsuji Itao (death note, one missed call final)
DVD release: Tokyo Shock

The much anticipated review of Tokyo Gore Police. This is a movie so graphic, so extreme, so over the top, that it required the help of two guest reviewers. I enlisted my friends Rob and Rupe to give their two cents on the movie, and I think this shocking movie certainly left an impression on them.

For another alternative review on this movie, please see NonstoptoTokyo's great review. Constantine has been doing some great Japanese cinemas reviews lately, so please go subscribe to her!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvJC3ViaXDI

I have to say it here, because I didn't mention it in the video itself, but Eihi Shiina of Audition fame did a great job as the lead role. Also, this movie is extremely offensive and full of blood and guts (as well as some sexual situations). Self mutilation and strange jokes about self mutilation are certainly not family friendly or possibly in the best taste, but this movie seems concerned with hitting all the hot buttons to get a rise out of audiences. Having said that, there are some genuinely funny scenes as well, and sometimes this is due to the manga like over the top nature of the film.

Hope everyone enjoys the review! Rupe and Rob both did superb jobs as guest co-hosts... do you want to see them again? Tune in next week for a special 'michigan swan' episode with the three of us. The 50th episode, 'swan's best and worst of j-horror,' is going to be slightly delayed to perhaps come out in 2 weeks time. I've been getting more busy with things around here, but it is coming. Thanks for watching everyone... and see you next time!

  • Gory, eh. Quick Q, gore is good and all, but what about the SFX? Some gory movies just don't seem as gory because of cheap SFX and that's what worries me.

Nice to see you have guest reviewers. Hopefully we will see them again. :)

  • some cheesy cg in scenes, but most of the time the effects use good old fashioned props and costumes so that makes it look cooler (in my eyes). But yeah, it all looks wayyyy over the top.

  • I've seen Rob in 2 videos, and in both videos he's eating pizza. lol

  • How is Infection a bad movie? It is different, it is confusing - but it certainly does deserve a bit more mature approach. I mean, there are convincing acting and this spooky, nightmarish atmosphere. And it peaks only at the very end, when we see the apple. Regarding TGP, I could have coped with a bit more info: you did not specify that this movie holds the title as the bloodiest ever, with 4 tons of fake blood spilled; that the studio where they were shooting it was completely ruined etc.

  • i think it's the best (gore / funny) japanese horror(like) flick ;)

  • man i miss you roger

  • The story wasnt terrible but the film was batshit mental...there is of course lots of gore but its so over the top that it just looks silly but I know its not meant to be taken too seriously. There are some truly bizarre scenes that only Japanese cinema could come up with. Once you see past the buckets (and buckets) of blood theres not much of a film left. While you may want to watch it just for the outrageous over the top gore it's not a great film by any stretch of the imagination.

  • TGP sure beats Braindead (Dead Alive) with all it's insanities! The ultimate brains out party gore flick! No review for Versus? That movie rocks so bad!

The UK release of TGP has a whole bunch of very cool special features, minus a silly dub! nice vid you guys!

  • this what i like to call a Tokyo-gorexploitation , if your into body parts flying and other shenanigans this is not for you

  • RIP Rodger Swan... You inspired me to move to japan and work in japan and you actually inspired me in writing and many other things. Your my biggest Idol!

  • just wanna give my take on TGP, I watched it expecting blood, gore weirdness and insanity. If u're not looking for these things when watching a Japanese gore movie, then why watch? I liked Ichi the Killer, Machine Girl and Battle Royale, & TGP delivered everything I wanted to see. I also want to say the dog-like human weapon Prisoner 639 was great lol, it was very creative. I hope my comment is appreciated & that my points are understood.

  • Most abysmal films that ever existed, I am not saying that Japanese aren't capable of making films? The movie is just a steaming pile of shit. They're good and somewhat decent films that are made in Japan, only can name a few since I do not want to go into detail much, Battle Royale, Ringu aka the original horror film of The Ring and etc. Either the guy that made Tokyo Gore Police is talentless or have no creativity. In general alot of people make bad films nowadays in ever country and states.
