@catblanket14uk What makes you say that? It's exactly what I do. the pet becomes, at least in some small part, permantly part of me. I can't think of a better way to honor a pet.

My only Danio is in a tank with 2 firebellies and a marsh shrimp. The danio was bought September 07- nearly 4 years ago. Is this a record for Zebras?

@Polybun Useless wanker.

@catblanket14uk You should try cooking them with miso. danio miso, it's their last chance at being decorative.

Hi! The red gills are sign of ammonia poisoning. Ammonia is a chemical produced from the fishes waste. You wanna change the water and use some water solutions like tetra ammonia safe. You can buy them at your local pet store. If the fish happens to have red gills but is still fine just change the water and add the water solution so they fish can heal and go back to normal. If not the danio can die. :( Im sorry.

i had a glofish like this - he had swim bladder. i did a 30% water change twice over three days. i offered a couple frozen peas and a cucumber, which he declined. then i fasted him (and everyone else) for two days and he recovered.

The way you put it makes me feel sad... :(
I have 2 Danios... I don't know how long they last...

hes just a senior citizen in fish years, its like how old men walk hunchbacked, their skeletons have just worn out because they lived a long happy life in your healthy aquarium, no need to feel bad

kotep777 when you say ' smallest of my danios was almost lifeless, this is after recovering from being upside down and almost dead a month ago' i remembered this happening to one of my first fish, i think a silver shark...anyway i later then found out that it was swim bladder disease that makes the fish swim upside down and seem lifeless,not really sure if there are any remedies but i know that its something to do with water quality.
what the.?okay now the fish is not bloated and is still crooked but not floatin to top when he rests.....even the other sick, better then sick again fish looks better and is up tryin to eat again and movin (at least not by the filter or floatin upside down at the top....which i cant believe anyone can recover from that!)
not sure how much time they all got but these lil guys sure as hell put up a fight...i havent been the best owner and let the quality slip a few times.. which i wont do again

Don't worry. Your danio is just old. This happened to every one of my danios at different times and they were around the same age as yours. The rest of the fish in the tank were fine. I've read that this has happened because of all the inbreeding.
It's hard to say how much longer they have. Could be weeks, could actually be months.

i noticed the bloated and curved fish (which is now normal looking....wierd) has reddish gills...is this also from old age?

yea mine have gotten almost better too - not all the way but almost.
I have no idea on the reddish gills.
I heard that life expectancy is 2-3 years. Mine were just over 2.
