This banjo has an Ovilla-like neck, but a 12-inch with a Dobson-style tone ring, which is what Chuck uses for his Cottonwood model. I decided to play BBB slowly, as it seems to be a tune everyone rushes through, thereby missing (IMHO) some of the rather pretty melody. Plain old G tuning: gDGBD

  • what is that odd chord you play in the "B" part of the tune.. the real erieee sounding one..right at 33 second point into the video..

  • That's a B7:

    1st string 4th fret

    2nd string 4th fret

    3rd string 2nd fret

4th string 4th fret (which I didn't bother with here)

You can also play an easier B7 as

    1st string 1st fret

    2nd string open

    3rd string 2nd fret

(easiest just to avoid the 4th, and you really don't want to include the 5th string!)

  • really nice - i like the slower pace too - at breakneck speed the melody can get lost. lovely b7 too

  • Beautiful, subtle, tasteful, charming, totally enjoyable....

  • Mr Zepp you are truly lord of the Banjo !!!!!!!

  • You're right about the slower speed bringing out the melody; plus, it allows us to hear that banjo really sing.

  • Lovely playing and a sweet tone from the banjo.

  • just wonderful, thanks Ian
