instead of buying a new ball right away just take the ball apart with a small magnetic screwdriver and guaranteed theres dirt, dust, or hair stopping the rollers from rolling properly... only takes a little patients and make sure you put the rollers back the right way, bend the clasps back and clean the contacts in which the ball and rollers contact with on the mainboard in your phone. after putting everything back together you should be a happy person and saved 20 bucks :) took me about 20 min

You should try a different angle on the camera cause i could see much going on in the video.

I know you did this video a while ago. Just got the new Bold 9930 which I absolutely love. Replaced because the tour trackball died (too much paper strip repairing to keep it moving). Decided to get a kit (with proper screwdrivers, plastic opener and new trackball) and refurbish my tour (to upgrade my wife's old Curve). Went through all the steps popped on the back cover, booted it up and Good as New!!!! Very helpful video ... even 2 years later. Thanks

:'''''( my blackberry is an asshole

thatss so much work.

Can it be changed to a trackpad?

I found when putting it back together, it was FAR easier to put the backplate on first (hooking over the headphone jack) and then putting both pieces together into the front piece.
Great video, but I seem to be having a problem with my screen. It doesn't load when I turn my phone on. Do you know how I might go about fixing this? The lights on the keypad work. Thanks!

@mbcurl Try a firmware update through the BB software. If that does not work it could be hardware.

I just tried this on my wife's Tour and when I opened it up, ALL of the torx screws were completely stripped. Neither of us has ever attempted to take the phone apart, looks like RIM needs to do some better QC.

@snowtires ry to wedge a small flat head screw driver into the torx bolt. Slowly try to get it turn by applying pressure so the flat head digs into the screw. Once you can get them out purchase new torx bolts asap.

Once you can get them out purchase new torx bolts asap. If your device is under warranty have the carrier or RIM deal with it. Good luck.
