Unknown Facts About An American Crime

There are many facts that were left out of the film. This slide show explains some of the many events that happened to sixteen year old Sylvia Likens, before and after she died. CORRECTION IN VIDEO!
The Baniszewski house has been torn down and is no longer there today.
STORY: Sylvia and her little sister Jennie were left in the care of Gertrude Baniszewski, while their parents were on tour with the carnival. During the girls stay, Sylvia encounters multiple beatings, brandings, and mental abuse from the Baniszewski family and kids from the neighborhood. On October, 26, 1965 Sylvia died just one week before her parents return home. Since then laws have been changed, books have been written, films have been made, and awareness for child abuse has drastically increased.

From what I've come across, sylvia took the beatings to prevent the same happening to her sister. Jenny had polio. I'm sure she wanted to do more to help. Just wanted to respond to a comment about how Jenny should've done more. Gertrude was released in 85. She apparently was a born again Christian. So was Karla Faye Tucker but she was put to death. goodtimes.....

i just watched this movie and was very impressed :) but i have a question of it. in the movie richard (hobb) had a crush on sylvia......was that true? and if he did in fact had a crush on her why did he carve the sentence on her stomach? R.I.P sylvia u were too beautiful for words <3

@mikeswife415 "An American Crime" Is a better movie with characters actually on Gertrudes children. The girl next door, is a movie about a book where the author only took a few events from Sylvia's torture and put it in the book. So, An American Crime is basically exactly what happened.
