  • What a bunch of knobs, I would rather spend a few thousand a year tryin to stop infections, overdose etc than 10's of MILLIONS a year treating them afterwards and if anyone is thinking that someone is goin to start shooting junk because there is a pamphlet telling you the safest way is a complete IDIOT and do the rest of us a favor.....

    please dont reproduce...

  • this is as bad as the surgeon general getting fired for wanting to teach kids about condoms

  • Clearly, all of the previous attempts to stop heroin use on a large scale have failed. Addicts are not going to listen to someone telling them to stop, its an addiction. All the pamphlets are trying to do is cut down disease spread and infections that occur from intravenous drug use. They are no condoning heroin use, they just realize that people won't stop using so the least they could do is try to cut down SOME of the many risk factors. There's nothing wrong with spreading knowledge.

  • @curtswangs Im with you on this....as an ex addict myself,i totaly understand WHY there trying to get some kind of msg across....And like you say, there trying to cut down on H.I.V. or HEP C. or any other infectious discease's being spread...PEACE.

  • people are gonna shoot up no matter what the government says... all they are trying to do is teach people how to do it in a Safe way and without spreading diseases I see no problem with this/

  • Heroine use may not be safe, but there are plenty of things you could do wrong to cause additional problems on top of that terrible addiction. I think this pamphlet is a step in the right direction.

(NOTE: I do not shoot dope.)

  • No kidding! I care more about people being safe then preaching morals. There going to shoot up they need to be made aware of the dangers of incorrect needle use if only just as a reminder. Clean needles need to be available and btw stop throwing rigs on the ground so I can step on them, thanks!

  • This is critical information that the public needs in order to REDUCE infections, folks. Do you think finger-wagging and just saying no is the way to go? Nancy Reagan tried the same thing, and it failed miserably. People need access to info and clean needles - that will reduce infections, scaremongering won't.

  • we did NOT learn from prohibition on alcohol...same in a lot of ways....we have to quit treating drugs like as a law enforcement problem. Weve been pissing away BILLIONS on the "war on drugs" since Nixon and havent gotten anywhere. The drug trade is even worse now than it was then. u can pass all the laws you want but people will find a way to do it and sell it. The parallels are too many. It creates a black market, busts up families, creates an industry out of prisons.

  • The media caused this uproar, and they are also the ones who misconstrued the pamphlet as condoning heroin use. Heroin is never a wise choice, but that doesn't mean there isn't a proper way to stick a needle. Ask any anesthesiologist. If you can't understand that this is saving NYC money in the long run, then you are very lucky to not understand the drug. The people running the exchanges and clinics understand that ignorance kills.

  • legalise all drugs. Before the turn of the 20th century to be a drug addict was taboo, in fact in the late 1800s doctors prescribed morphine to alcoholics because people who were addicted to opiates were less detrimental to society. The problem is the black market that has now been created, and the gov'ments demonization of the drug user. Prohibition causes way more problems for society. You can't stop the demand. when you can sell something for 17,000 times the cost of production. Think it over

  • If heroin's a poison than why is it used as a pain killer in the U.K.?
