This is a short video dedicated to Ted Hughes, my favourite English poet, who would have turned 77 on August 17th next.

  • Where did these great photos come from?

  • from the web mostly...I took some from biographies like "Her Husband", "A Lover of Unreason"

  • A very beautiful tribute. Most people believed Ted Hughes to be a bastard, blaming his infidelity for Sylvia Plath's suicide. But nobody loved Sylvia more than he did. He dedicated his career to her loving memory.

  • Ted Hughes seems to me (but perhaps not others...) to possess the perfect balance of masculine strength and poetic gentleness. Almost certainly flawed (who isn't?) but whose contribution to poetry should not be under estimated. The only Mexborough legend.

  • @SarahLeeAnn You really need to learn considerably more about Ted's marriage to Sylvia before you criticise. I believe it was Germaine Greer, the celebrated feminist who stated that most me would have seen her (Sylvia) coming.

  • @AlexMac24 I agree with everything you say about Ted Hughes but never forget Mexburgh WMC nor the wonderful Nexburgh and Swinton trolleybuses!

  • @777juneau okay but honestly, two of the mother's of his children killed themselves and he was having affairs all over the place. That I don't get. Something tells me he doesn't treat the women who love him very well.

  • love that ,he was really a paciant man slivia was very hard to geet along with ,bipolar ,mental illnesss back then they didnt know enough,,so it was sad ,for thenm both,

  • @sundazedboy You're kidding -- you don't recognize The Beatles' "Yesterday"?

  • @sundazedboy Really? The Beatles.

  • who sings the song playing in the background?

  • a fantastic poet and my favourite, what a shame there is not even one port in Britain today who is fit to follow on from him, not Andrew Motion and not Duffy (what the hell is so good about her?!). You've done it Ted, you have become that Immortal all great poets become. Your work and art will live forever...

  • Hughes is a great poet! I find Crow an astounding work. For me, the poetry matters. The poet of the poetry is the poetry of the poet. Thank you for this beautiful tribute.
