RARE VIDEO of Jim McCarty (Buddy Miles Express, Mitch Ryder's Detroit Wheels & Cactus) performing live on stage with legendary late, great Detroit Blues guitarist, Willie D. Warren (the man that taught Guitar Slim) and Mystery Train at the equally late, great Soup Kitchen Saloon in Detroit on February 2, 1999. One year before Willie's untimely death. Possibly the only known footage of Warren performing on stage? Enjoy.

  • I've got some good videos of Willie D. Warren performing in Detroit, at least a few shows. I think they're with Jim McCarty also. One was at the Soup Kitchen too. One may even be this same show. I'll have to dig 'em out and check. Thanks!

  • Ahhhh...so I'm not the only one. Good to know. On this evening, Erik Smith from channel 7 news got up and sang with the band. Note to Erik: stick to the news.

  • @JakeKirkpatrick I see that this was posted 2 yrs ago but I'd like to check out the studio jams you mentioned, you can send me the link or just get back to me with the info I need to hear it... Thanks, Motown Harry

  • @junedeon eric has been a good supporter of the blues and even co-wrote songs with Albert Collins. He's a nice man too.

  • Over 20 years ago, my cousin took me to the Soup Kitchen to hear the blues. To this day, it is one of the best memories I have!

  • Jim McCarty is so good! I love him !

  • WDW was true gentleman. RIP

  • Willie was a great musician & friend of mine. I lived in Detroit from '98-2000, during which time i jammed with Willie on a few stages several times. The last time i saw him, I played with him too. At the end of our set he said let me buy you a drink. During our drink he asked if i thought he should retire. I replied i don't know, how do you feel? He said, i'm tired Chris. That was mid Dec '99, I left for europe 3 or 4 days later. I never spoke to my friend again. ~ R.I.P Mr. Warren

  • Howard Glazer (guitar); Gary Rasmussen, Scott Gatteno, Locious Wilson (bass); Matt Stahl (drums) - it's the same band that I recorded the Harmonica Shah album 'Deep detroit' .... also well worth checking out if you don't know it! The WW stuff has a real feel and tracks like 'going down slow' recorded 3 days before he died are priceless - yeah there are rough bits of playing BUT thety are all genuine and heartfelt licks, the vox are simply coming from a man who knew his time was almost up.

  • i might be interested!! can u tell me with who he is playing with?

  • For those interested I have 3 cd's of unreleased Willie Warren in the studio - recorded for a UK project and done right up until 3 days before he died. Amazing stuff. Drop me a line!

  • Willie D. Warren

There is a CD available from No Cover records in Detroit from this performance.

The old style Blues at it's best
