I'm a racist. Will you work to understand my perspective?

Agreeing with the last poster, giving polite directives to children is necessary and Black children, like most children, will respond to polite requests; however, teachers must be authoritative and assertive when giving directions to children. Teachers cannot come across as though they are intimidated and frightened by children, regardless of the children's races and cultures.

Wonderful video. Well presented. Don't forget all students don't like the forceful approach. Some kids, blacks as well as whites, comes from homes and community where aggresive communication is acceptable.

Aggressive communication is not a culture or custom. It's a learned behavior/communication that can be altered or erradicated. Aggressive children have to be retrained to use respectful and kind language. I work on this daily.

@WhiteyMcWhiteJr : Your comment is unbecoming. I expect better altitude from an educator. No teacher should ever expect anything less than excellent from my child or anyother child. Ebonic is not an official language, thus, it should neither be taught nor upheld as one. Next, America, in all her glory, is a diverse society, so we all have to learn to get alone; repecting America's history, culture, and custom is the start.

So this white teacher can see that "diverse" students need a tailored teaching,so why not admit that white students also need a tailored teaching and could do without all the anti-white propaganda she shovels down their throats?

Anti-racist is a code word for anti-white.

Ugh, as a white man I would only want to teach White students. I would teach them their glorious history and civilization and language without interference from the jews and liberals. Let negroes "skool" negroes in ebonics and black history myths and whatever other nonsense they want. I would never participate in that.

@emilyamama Ms. Billings is certainly not a scholar. Her book the Dream Keepers is just one example of the hate whitey (esp. white male) crowd. She states that only black female teachers can be truly multicultural while white males are rigid and rule bound in their teaching approach.

@emilyamama there are actually 932 active hate groups. I include the white privilege/white studies crowd as a loosely formed anti-white hate group. That group includes such people as Billings, Mc Intire, Wise, the late Zinn, Jensen and others.

This is truly nauseating. US public schools continue to get worse every year, and the more money spent per student, the worse they get PRECISELY because of psychologically damaged women like this who believe they are post-Christian Missionaries. They graduate people who dont know anything. Is it any wonder all the big corporates need HB1 hires?

Gloria Ladson Billings is an amazing scholar and it is so fortunate that her important work exists in the face of the misinformed individuals like the one below. There are 932 active hate groups in the US currently and I am sure the person below subscribes to this imbalanced nonsense. Anti-racist work is part of the core of democracy.
