The interviewer seems to be hung up on the 435 calories and 25 g of fat. The purpose of the paczki was to rid the kitchen of all the sweets before Lent so they wouldn't go to waste.  Once you ate the paczki, on Fat Tueday, you fasted and abstained for the 40 days of Lent.

Nowadays, people eat the Paczki, but don't follow the fasting tradition afterwards.

Back here in the Slavic Village in Cleveland Ohio we pronounce them as ' Punchkies' although they're spelled Paczki. I remember the time I took a dozen to my work friends and introduced then to a Polish treat. One of my favorite treats, I will do my best to keep the tradition alive.
