July 6, 1990. Today Vint Hill is commercial/industrial. See my old videos of FORT DEVENS and FORT ORD and Vint Hill and Devens as of 2011 . I was here with the Material Support Command Nov. 1964 - Sept. 1965. There were 3735 views of this video since Dec 2006 on Google, until Google transferred all the videos to YouTube.

@LOPEZBUNCH A lot of military instalation were closed during the BRAC - branch realignment. The installations were turned over various entities for transition into other uses. However, these types of facilities do not usually fit conventional uses of real estate. Maybe the barracks would make a good prison, mental hospital, or college dormatory. But then you would have to build the rest of the college. They did a college with a tiny portion of Fort Ord. Fort Devens is a success story.

Does anyone know why it was abandoned?

@loncray I did a complete video on June 28th which I will edit and upload in about a month. The trashing of the barracks inside was unbelievable!!! These buildings would have been salvageable because they were still structurally sound. There are modern high tech industrial buildings on the antenna field. I got into "The Barn".

There's a housing development in the antenna field now. And the old main barracks building - heck, all the barracks buildings - are completely trashed inside.

I will return here June 28, 2011, to get an up-to-date video of all the changes to Vint Hill.
