I first started KOBUDO training when I was 10 after my dad gave me a pair of Chucks, I then when through Staff, Sai, A little Tonfa, Kama, Shuriken (being abit of a 'club hopper') etc. It was the days of Freestyle/Karate Budo etc.. Ninjitsu was in at the time.. haha, if you know what I mean about martial crazes! In the 80's in Australia Taekwondo had kicked off and was the biggest thing but all Martial Nerds (such as myself) were interested in being a Ninja.. then I grew up!

hahaha, I told a girl friend I had (who was Japanese) in Highschool (knowing NO Japanese at the time) that when I was a kid I wanted to be an Ninja.. She said " You So Sirry! You too big to hide from anyone!" hahahaha! I still think that hilarious! Cos its true!

Anyways, I had fun playing with different styles and seeing different peoples take on kobudo/Japanese Weaponry as a kid. I was first introduced to the SE Asian Styles when I was around 12 when one of my friends brothers in free Style Karate was teaching kali Silat & Jeet Kune Do.. JKD & Wing Chun had their phases in Australia too, but it was more so for me about who I was connecting with.

So in short I'd like to say that there are alot of great masters of Silat I have met in Malaysia and also some I know of that our brother Parvez has trained with that would put me to shame. Their arts with this weapon are a whole nother world. I am simple showing you my own adaptation of how this weapon and how I mainupulate it with my background in SE Asian Martial Arts (Mainly Silat Influenced).

I was doing a comparison for students in Australia at a recent training session as some of them had Karate backgrounds and I was discussing the different approaches to the use of the weapon. Hence the reason for the title. All you kids wanting to whinge and moan about political technicality... try and come here to Japan with your little black belt from no-one's heard of with Hanshi this & Kyoshi that! That's all I got to say! Peace!

  • as far as jujutsu to silat, silat is clearly a more transitional n more fluid i wouldnt say its a better system of h2h, more well arounded yes adding in the fact of weapons training n very effective weapons training, the combative style i train in is seen on my channel, ive watched some of ur videos u have great skill and understanding of the realities of combat i also take great interest in other styles i look foward in the future to train in silat and mma to complete my MA training

  • @harleyqslovechild88 I understand.

Please consider that Jujutsu is now broken into three classes now -

    Japanese

    Western

    & Brazilian..

I have trained all three (mainly the top one here) and I can honestly say they are totally different.

Again - it's up to who's applying it.

  • i agree some martial arts are more practical right off the bat then others, but i believe it always comes down the technician first n foremost, ex. u take silat expert wit a knife and u take a jujutsu expert with a knife who mastered tanto jutsu and chances are they r going to equally cut eachother to peices and whoever walks away if anybody at all, would have be due to the will of the gods< so to speak.. nice video

  • @harleyqslovechild88 I live in Japan and train Jujutsu here (you can see my other video) I've never heard of Tanto-jutsu here.. They train it in Kenjutsu and some Kobudo methods but the hand to hand combatives is lacking. I can tell you from experience. I know Silat covers more.. however, it's not up to the art or technique (in my opinion) it's up to the man in the fight and the size of the FIGHT in that man!

  • @TeamWuJin agreed, i also like ur video on sensei's lol everything u said was 100% true, believe it or not we even have americans here in america that wear the bandanas and carry around the attitude as described in the video lol there dumb people. I also like how u kinda mention people cant seem to tell some of the stuff in japan reguarding MA are basicly live role play and ect and the japanese dont even take serious.. So it was a good video thanx for posting it. people should kno the realities
