This video presents one method to resolve a double feed on an AR-15 type rifle using the Firearm Control Device. Please note that this particular method is experimental at this time.
The first indication that a double feed has occurred is typically the experience of a mushy/slack trigger.
When a mushy/slack trigger is noticed, the weapon is immediately rotated in order to observe the chamber area and identify the malfunction type.
If it is determined that the weapon has a double-feed malfunction, the magazine release is depressed and held under pressure by the trigger finger, and the weapon is rotated and moved into your workspace.
At this point your weak hand pulls the charging handle reward, until you feel the bolt catch lock. Your weak hand grip should release the charging handle, LEAVE THE CHARGING HANDLE TO THE REAR. Attempting to move it forward can actually make the malfunction far worse on rare occasion.
Next the weak hand is moved forward, grasping the magazine and stripping it from the weapon. At this point you cease applying pressure to the magazine release with your trigger finger.
Next, with your weak hand, insert as many fingers as possible, as deep as possible into the magazine well. Find any cartridges and knock them free so gravity can remove them. Once you think you have all the cartridges removed from the action, check one more time with your fingers that no cartridges exist as far back as the bolt face, as high as the gas tube, and as far forward as the locking lugs.
Next the weak hand leaves the weapon and acquires your most readily available magazine, inserts it firmly into the rifle and applies slight downward pressure to assure it is properly seated. Lastly, your thumb depresses the bolt catch.
Move the weapon from your workspace to your battlespace.
Malfunction resolved.
