There is a UNIVERSAL preconcieved standard of morality that we as human beings are inclined to follow.
It is not created by one human dictatorship, because if you look into the history of various cultures, you will see that although posessing minimal differences, the standard of morality is largely universal.
"Preconception" does not have to be a faulty premise.
Everything is a presupposition. The philosophy of existence is presupposed; and thus becomes the basis for everything other idea.
I will agree with you that many of the ideas in the bible are preconcieved ideas. But I do not agree with your negative connotation of "preconcieved"
Human beings inarguably have various natural instincts...
Could it be that faith is a natural instinct? Many of these preconcieved ideas (i.e) the laws of God, are laws that are already written in our hearts. How can I say this?
@TeenAngel4Christ Remove the trappings and widow dressings and faith is just an attempt to rationalize preconceived ideas---those not derived from evidence, but from desire and wishful thinking.
Faith has given mankind thousands of god concepts and associated belief systems including Christianity. If faith were any kind of guide to truth and reality we reach a common conclusion. Instead (because of faith) we have a wildly diverse range of beliefs, each one making claims at odds with the others.
I truly do apologize If I came off as condescending. Apparently, referring to ones belief as "bronze age ignorance" tends to bring out the worst in the individual. lol :)
But about that...
Reason is the capacity for rational thought. Faith is not opposed to reason, nor is reason opposed to faith."
As a matter of fact, true reason gives room for things that may not be revealed now, but will be revealed sooner or later. Everything is based on a premise of faith.
@TeenAngel4Christ Thanks for the condescending remarks. So be it it---I'm curious to know your definition of 'faith' because it's world's apart from what I understand the "faith" to mean---namely:
"the permission someone gives them self to believe something for which there is no demonstrable evidence". I would call that incompatible with reason. If you had reason to believe you wouldn't require faith.
LOL. It's pretty interesting that you should isolate reason and critical thinking from faith. 1. It shows your limited understanding of faith 2. It is a false dilemma & a faulty generalization: TWO logical fallocies. As the poster child for reason and critical thnking I would expect more. Here's a snippet of critical thinking for you. 1. I do not like this video 2. There are plenty of other atheist/ Ayn Rand videos that I can enjoy on youtube 3. Maybe I should leave.

@TeenAngel4Christ
Even philosophy is based on a premise of faith. Here's a maxim:
How do we know we exist
because existence exists!
Everything from there is based on the premise of existence...presupposition.

Atheist clubs are becoming popular on many campuses. Reason and critical thinking trumps faith and bronze age ignorance.
