Are the black elements just activated carbon?

I've heard that you are not allowed to sell any water filters in California.
-
To romo502 -- they don't sell in California because California passed a ridiculously onerous and tedious law requiring them to constantly provide all sorts of nit pickety and technically unnecessary information that is so burdensome to comply with it would run them out of business. No wonder everyone is leaving California!

My instructions said to use 2 TBSP of coloring instead of a few drops. Mine always has a hint of color in it when I test it so maybe I'm using too much?
-
wow! I'm wondering why you don't sell them in Cali?

@sabbathcrazy This is the red food coloring used to test the filters. A few drops is enough to color the water is all that's needed.
Looks like it didn't filter it all...

@seangarrett92 If your referring to the red water left in the upper chamber, there will always be a couple inches left in the upper chamber as there is not enough pressure to push through that remaining water. Once more water is added to the upper chamber, this water will be pushed through.
