Wonderful! And love the sleeve from Hull too! No longer on Hessle road sadly!

Fred Douglas also recorded this song on Regal with a good dance band accompaniment. I have another version by the Savoy Orpheans on HMV, but of the two I prefer the Fred Douglas version mainly because of the excellence and clarity of the recording.

As always i LOVE these 20s vocal 78s!This is EXCELLANT and i have never heard Harry Fay or this tune before.I have a number of Fred Douglas and Fred Barnes on Regal that are big favourites of mine, also an "ariel"78 of a man i cant recall singing "thats my weakness now" which is so good!

Very fine fun song!
Do any of you recall the old song,"bye Bye Blackbird"? to which tune was sung, years ago "I've been out with Sun Yat Sen,but I'm not going out again,Bye Bye Shanghai"-did this tune have its origins in this campaign?Lovely music.

Interesting that. There was quiet a lot of 'moving and shaking' going on in that part of the world then .

Harry Fay was a very prolific artist on these labels.
Readers may be interested to know that this song was very topical in it's day. In January 1927, the British intervened to protect their interests in China during the Civil War. 12,000 men set sail for Shanghai. Plenty of chaps to teach the Chinese how to Charleston!!.
