I own the dvd "Leila Bellydance for Beginner", and love it a lot.

Music is ffrom Leila's cd Sukara. (she has two other music cds, too.)

It is one of the best overall dvds I have ever owned - it is bellydance basics and combinations and improvisation/follow along instruction in Egyptian style, by an American woman who came to Egypt as a professional bellydancer, and had to relearn bellydance to please the Egyptian, not Western audience.

Her poise and style is amazing.

As I said, this dvd teaches you the basics in a very EGYPTIAN way, and a whole lot of them: Hip and chest isolations of all kinds, what makes it Egyptian?
For example when learning the undulation the American way with the chest pushing massively, I never felt it looked "right". Leila teaches you how to make it look subtler, Egyptian.
Aside the basic moves she teaches you combinations where you get going with circles, shimmies etc. Lots of layering already on this program. As if that were not enough she then offers you "follow the bouncing butt" Middle Eastern style education in several themed sesssions like "energizing" or "sensual". IT's the part of the video where she's not wearing the pretty leopard shirt, but the warm orange scarf.

The dvd is VERY long, much content, and I must say I think I have my go-to gift for anyone I believe wants to learn the Egyptian rather than American style basics!! Love the video A LOT.

I upload this to enhance interest in the dvd - if the producers do not agree with this, I am happy to conform to their wish to take it down any time.

  • How is fascinating listen while Dina explains us pages of secret history of bellydance !!!

Thank you for the gift and I hope to soon have other nice surprises.

    Luigi

  • @unicornorosso :)))))) I wished I could tell big secrets Luigi, nothing spectacular, but thank you very much my friend :)

  • Hi Dina, you made me want to buy this DVD!!! I don't think the producer should remove this video ;-) But I have a question for you. I am not a beginner. I have been dancing for 4 years now and I have arabic (egyptian, moroccan) and american teachers (canadian, american and brazilian). Do you think I will benefit from it? Thanks!

  • @delkhec wow, you are very very lucky delkhec, I would love to learn with Moroccan and Egyptian teachers :)) when I lived in a city with many possibilities (Paris) I had not yet considered learning the dance.. now I live in a city with very little possibilities :)

so for me this video is obviously MORE beneficial than for someone who has great teachers from the countries anyway.

I can tell you what she teaches: the very basics 1hour 20 min; you probably don't need them so much, only that

  • I find mixing up is nice. Essentially one dvd is the cost of one class, right, so I buy MANY dvds telling myself "it's only the cost of one class, and I can go back to it whenever I like".

Then what you will potentially like: "Integrated movements", the 2nd section (40 min). she teaches moving shimmies, moving with circles, egyptian walk.

then the 3rd section: follow along to her improvisation (18min). this section alone is GOLD for me! so the 2nd and 3rd section could be beneficial for you.

  • laila you are so sexy...can you marry me...love you so much..

  • انتي لبنانيه ؟

  • is she Arabian ?? cause her name is Arabian

  • wow she's beautiful!

  • hi Dinavienna, great posting!! I like that Leyla puts the cautions in about back, knee and hip - as it is true, bellydance uses these areas intensively and you need to give lots of time to make the muscles flexible, before trying to push your body that isn't used to these movements, ripping tendons and pulling the verterbrae out, especially with those stiff in these areas......... she is a lovely dance Leyla and very beautiful !! have a lovely day my friend xx
