Priya demonstrates Roti-making on a cloudy day.

Photographed with the Canon FS100/200 digital video camera.

Roti is an Indian flat-bread made of wheat or whole wheat flour, kneaded, rolled flat, lightly seared on both sides, and then cooked on an open flame until its steam causes it to blow up like a bread balloon.

Camera - FS100/200 standard definition SDHC card recorder. The camera has a remarkable zoom, but slightly to very muddy colors in low-light. White balance and color saturation were altered in editing to improve the image.

  • Put the rolling pin in the fridge a few hours before using it sweety it wont stick.

  • Roti (chappati) puffs up... and I am not aware that tortilla does. There are no other added ingredients like baking soda (tortilla recipes may call for that) or yeast (like in pita bread). Roti dough is just plain wheat flour, water and salt to taste. Other than these differences, they are essentially the same!

  • What's the difference between a roti and a tortilla? Besides throwing it directly on the flame I mean.

  • HEY Minda!!!!

  • cooking with Priya!!!
