The irony of this film is that everyone who ever protested or took offense to this film-- Ralph Bakshi was entirely in agreeance with them. That was the entire point of the film: it took an outrageously racist name and visual style, and used it to completely condemn racism and stereotyping itself. For a similar comparison, the manga Cyborg 009 did the same in 1964 with a multi-ethnic cast that, while stereotypical in every way, actually gave the middle finger to racism in its characterization.
