  • Bracken and sword fern is what we call them, i would not eat them... John Campbell and I were talking about them last night and he mentioned they can cause cancer...

  • I just sent you a message with a link to the blog i just posted that has pictures of the pages from my edible plant book. Notice at the end where it warns about it causing stomach cancer.

  • I don't think the first fern frond is bracken because it tapers in top and bottom. Bracken fronds tend to be triangular in shape. It would be a lot easier to identify the fern if you could show the plant the fronds were taken from. Bracken is very distinctive because it isn't a 'shuttle cock' fern, where all the fronds grow from a single point. It has single leaf stems with fronds growing out almost horizontally like eagle's wings, hence its botanical name Pteris (Fern) Aquillinum (Eagle like).
