The students of communication of Don Bosco Sihanoukville made their own survey this week at the technical school campus. They asked 210 persons if they knew the names of the four Khmer Rouge seniors to be prosecuted by ECCC. None of them could answer the four names and they did not know that in June 27, 2011, there is the opening of the prosecution to Khieu Samphan, former head of state, Ieng Sary, former primer minister of foreign affairs, Nuon Chea, former secretary of the Communist Party of Democratic Kampuchea and Mrs Ieng Thirith, former ministry of social affairs during the Khmer Rouge regime of Democratic Kampuchea (1975 - 1979), where 1.7 million persons disappeared.
The four senior leaders made Case 002 and they are the surviving top leaders. Saloth Sar (Pol Pot), Son Sen and Ta Mok died. Kaing Guek Eav (Duch), former director of the S-21 torture and execution center, was the Case 001 that received already a sentence.
Case 003 and Case 004 were closed in April by the Co-Judges stating that they were out of the tribunal jurisdiction, although International Co-prosecutor Andrew Cayley appealed the decision considering that those cases should be reviewed. If those cases would arrive to prosecution, they mean more defendants responsible for war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.
June 27, 2011 marks a historical date for Cambodia, when the victims of the bloody Democratic of Kampuchea regime will see the responsible leaders of that nightmare brought to justice.
