Isn't that slot above the processor (labeled RM7 I think) for CPU upgrade cards? If you could find one, that'd wouldn't risk the motherboard as you could put the socket on it instead, pending you can't by a DX 40 on the card outright.

Awesome, let us know where you send it off to and if it works, because I have the same dilemma: I want an FM Towns but like you I can't stand the looks of the plain beige boxes, the original is so cool with the EQ and disc drive.  It would be awesome to have the best of both worlds.

I've never sodered anything before im useless with electronics would be cool to know about that stuff and mod stuff love the console mods you can find.
