I POSTED THIS PRIMITIVE VIDEO WAY BACK IN 2006 THE FIRST TIME AROUND, AND IT PICKED UP CLOSE TO 50K HITS IN 6 MONTHS. AS A RESULT, THE RAMP PROJECT WAS FUNDED BY THE COMMISSION AND THE PLACIDA BOAT RAMP IS FULLY FUNCTIONAL AND SAFE TO USE. PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO USE IT AND FISH THE TARPON CAPITAL OF THE WORLD. THANKS FOR ALL OF YOUR CALLS AND EMAILS TO THE CHARLOTTE COUNTY COMMISSION. IT REALLY MADE THE DIFFERENCE TO GET THIS THING DONE. FISH ON!!!

THE VIDEO WAS ROUGH AND NARRATOR (ME) WAS CLEARLY NOT ON THE TOP OF HIS GAME BACK IN 2006.

The PUBLIC boat ramp at Placida Florida is the gateway to Charlotte Harbor's fishing and island getaways. The ramp has been unsafe and broken for several years. The toll machine and laws are vigorously enforced at all Charlotte County locations. Where has the money gone?

  • Keiser68. I must say that you are clearly uninformed. The point in this, is that it is self sustaining with hundreds of thousands of dollars generated at the site through parking/launching tolls (taxes paid on site). This video did plenty to publicize the fact that these dollars were being spent elsewhere. Forget about that fact, here's another one. Fishing in Florida generates over 80 BILLION DOLLARS per year in revenue. Don't you think it's smart to entice people to come, versus go away??

  • I am very happy that this video made people think and discuss this topic. The entire point of this endevour was simply to get the thing fixed. If we pay an hourly rate for something, it is to be expected that we get what we pay for. This is not just any ramp, it is the gateway to the tarpon capital of the world. This is a perfect example of our elected officials not doing what they are paid to do, and adequetly allocating dollars that are intended to support specific infastructure.

  • Yeah I am a local pilot and you should see where the tax dollars are not going. PGD airport is fine but Venice is plauged with cracks. A lot of roads in Charlotte county are middle class areas, and there are potholes after pothole. They havent been paved in twenty years. Not to mention you pay so much in goddamn taxes. Taxes went up and you still have to pay .75 an hour for a concrete ramp with some parking lots. Its rediculous.

  • I would suggest that you take some video of the condition and post it on here. It did not take long for things to get fixed once I let the world know how bad this boat ramp was. For people to pour thousands of dollars into the parking machine every day, there is no excuse for the facility to be less than perfect. If they cannot make it happen, remove the machines.

  • Dude there is no carpet on the bunks, you can tell the trailer is junk to begin with. If the ramp is too shallow at low tide then you wait to load your boat. They will get to it when they can. Tax dollars only go so far and if the ramp has been fixed then why is this video still rolling? There are so many places our tax dollars are being spent already, Your ramp took them away from somewhere else.... A freakin boat ramp isn't quite as important as roadways and such, its a luxury for gods sake.

  • Texas has alot better boat ramps

  • been there, all the time, seen full cars and trailers underwater there...

  • oh you must be new. Your taxes are to buy votes so the same old aristocrats can stay in power not to give to the peasants, where are you from Canada

  • Get yourself a tide chart, mate.

  • No problem, close the ramp at low tide.

Im from the Bay of Fundy, at low tide the ramp I use is about half a mile away from the water .

  • if the wheels are hooked over the back of the ramp you cant pull it out no matter what you are pulling it with. Had it happen at a local ramp here in NZ. Low tide, and muddy water, also not knowing the ramp, the wheels went off the end of the ramp. Had to go find some large planks to lever it back up on to the ramp.
