Wrong, MONGOOSE1. In 1977, Marvel licensed some characters to Universal to be developed as TV-movies and series. The Hulk show came out of that deal, as did Dr. Strange and Capt. America pilots that never became series. The Human Torch was one character Universal wanted, and a teleplay was written but never produced. This meant that the following year when NBC wanted to buy a new Fantastic Four series, the rights to the Torch weren't available. Universal wouldn't let the Torch to be included.
I'm sorry I said that about the torch and herbie 1978 is the best Fantastic Four series ever!

This was the 1978 DePatie-Freleng cartoon version of "FANTASTIC FOUR"-
not teribly great,,but it wasn't too bad. this NBC cartoon series was a far cry
from the 1967 Hanna-Barbera version, since the Human Torch charecter was
left-out,since the network or Action for Children's Television probably felt it
wasn't a good idea for the HT "Flaming-On",since they didn't want children to
risk putting fire opon themselves,,which was why Herbie The Robot was added.
