Highlights of the ANZAC Day service in Sydney's Hyde Park and the parade through the city.

ANZAC is a particularly important day in the Australia calender as it marks the anniversary of the Gallipoli landings on the 25th of April 1915. More than 12,000 Australian, New Zealand and other Commonwealth troops were killed.

It is often said that Aussie and Kiwi troops went to war as British soldiers and came back as Australians and New Zealanders. Gallipoli helped define Australia and New Zealand as nations.

Today ANZAC Day is not only an opportunity to remember those that fell at Gallpoli but to remeber those you have lost there lives in all wars around the world. It is also one of the events that unite Australia and New Zealand as nations.

At the Hyde Park service there are speeches and readings from the likes of the State Premier Morris Iemma and State governor Marie Bashir. We also hear the Last Post and the anthems God Save The Queen and Adnavce Australia Fair.

At the end of the video we see retired and currently serving servicemen and their families parading through the city. The most touching moment for me in the video is seeing a retired soldier with a young boy. To me that was most touching as ANZAC Day helps unite generations. Hopefully that young boy will help keep the spirits of the ANZACs alive.

  • esch oneskee bra?

  • @kensington25 eshay adlay?

  • "God Save the Queen" is the Commonwealth Anthem and therefor is to be played on ANZAC and Remenberance Day. the Union Jack is also ment to be flown, few dont but many do.

  • The Australia Act- stipulated in the 80's that God Save The Queen is only sung/performed in the presence of a direct "visiting" member of the Royal Family.

As for Saluting, bowing etc it is voluntary, this also applies in the UK- hope this helps.

  • Because it's not an official anthem of Australia. NZ soldiers might though, because God Save the Queen is still an official anthem of NZ, along with God Defend NZ.
