What you'll need:
Adobe Photoshop CS3 (I'm using the portable version)
Pre-uploaded soft brushes (these are the default brushes on your Photoshop)
Picture to edit (straight hair is recommended since it's easier to follow the hairline, especially if you're just using a mouse like me. But if you have a pen tablet, then you may choose extreeeemeeeely curly hair and I wouldn't even care)

Here, I'm using a picture of the Japanese singer GACKT since he's got beautiful straight hair that's prettier than mine..

STEPS:

#1:
Always remember to duplicate the background layer before you do any editing. This is essential for when you make mistakes like accidentally drawig on or erasing parts of the background layer, and remember that some effects won't work on your background layer since it's locked.

#2:
Choose from the soft brushes in your brush pallete. Choose a size that's appropriate for the strands of your subject's hair.

#3:
Choose the color you want to change the hair in. For example, if you want to change the hair to red, choose a color that is shades lighter than red since we want to make the hair look more natural (mind the lighting of the picture for this) and devil red is only for Jessie of Team Rocket.

#4:
Create a new blank layer and paint over the subject's hair. Paint over the loose strands first using a small sized brush. Remember to follow the direction of the hair for a more natural look.
tip: to adjust the size of the brushes witout going over to the brush pallete, just press the open [ (for reduce size) and close ] (for increase size) brackets on your keyboard.

#5:
Resize your brush and paint over the rest of the hair like spray painting. Still, remember to follow the direction of the hair. After this, paint over the remaining uncovered areas and erase any paint that is out of the hair shape

#6:
Adjust the opacity of the layer you painted on until you can see the shine of the original hair.

#7:
paint over the remaining black parts to make the hair look more natural and erase anything out of the hair shape.

When you're satisfied, save your work and we're done~
