2009 12 Hours of Sebring Tape#2 - 2 of 4 - Audi R15 TDI

2009 12 Hours of Sebring (Tape #2 of 4) This video picks up where the first video left off. The opening scene is of the La Bomba float leaving Air Brush Ed's (Ed Cox) shop where he has just finished putting the final artwork on the the race car float in preparation for the 2009 12 Hours of Sebring. From Ed's shop we traveled east of town to Professor Ralph Doty's 'Laboratory' where many of these ArtCars have been conceptualized and created over the years. One look around the Laboratory property and you can see that we have a plethora of ingredients with which to work. The best theme parties you can imagine have happened here. I've seen 'space ships' as large as a small house burn into the night sky with the theme from 'War of the Worlds' blasting in the background. We've seen televisions sets and old toilets slung high into the air and accross a pasture by a gigantic catapult. There have been so many theme parties here at the 'Lab' that it would be folly to list them all. With help from some of the La Bomba Gang, we set about repainting the Gotham City building facade panels that we were taking over to Sebring for the first time to erect in the Green Park in front of our camp. You will see Gotham City in all its glory in the next video installment. We came back the next day to load Gotham City, signs, tents, tables, and chairs and many other items needed for our 12 Hours of Sebring campsite onto La Bomba in preparation for our Wednesday, March 18th trek from Sarasota to Sebring. The final bit of footage is of the road trip to the 2009 12 Hours of Sebring. We had major issues with overheating due to some rather tired coolant hoses and possibly a compromised head gasket. Some diligent service is in order in the next few weeks. Every time that a hose let go, we would rob a replacement off Casey Donner's Pickup Truck that was in-tow behind his vintage bus. I think the tally for overheating, re-hosing, and re-watering on the trip over to the 2009 12 Hours of Sebring was five. Thanks to our in house mechanics, Casey Donner and Gary Weaver the La Bomba Race Car Float made it to the 2009 12 Hours of Sebring with minimal delay considering the issues with which we were confronted. The next video installment will start with our arrival at the 2009 12 Hours of Sebring.
