Very rare silent 8mm cine film of the Ulster Grand Prix 1977 on the Dundrod circuit near Belfast. Filmed by John Watterson now Managing Director of www.BikingDirect.com Riders include, Ron Haslam, Joey Dunlop, Tom Herron, Ray McCulloch, John Ekorold, Tony Rutter (Father of Michael Rutter), Roger Marshall, John Williams, Dave Potter, Bill Smith, John Woodley.

My first job after leaving school was in W J Chambers motorcycle shop where Ray McCulloch and Ralph Bryans served their apprenticeships, Ralph well known for partnering probably the greatest motorcycle road racer of all time, Mike Hailwood on the Honda sixes in the mid 1960's, and Ray for being one of the greatest Irish road racing stars of all time. Comments welcomed to John Watterson.

  • Sheer nostalgia!!!!...Brilliant stuff. But what has prompted me to comment is, i was there at the '77 GP, (i was 10 years old) and believe it or not, i would have been sitting right below the 'cameraman' when he was filming from the top of the hill looking down towards Leathemstown corner, now is that a coincidence or what? I can't see myself though, ..it would have been mindblowing if i could.

Thank you so much for posting this.

  • No problem, I'm just really pleased people are enjoying it, Tom Herron acknowleding me with the camera (and you!) with a wave at around 4min 30sec is pretty cool too.

  • is that joey with the yellow lid?

  • Yes that's him.

  • i was there in 77 and 78 but when tom heron got killed i cooled my watching for a while

  • @coxx661 wtf! are you delusional or what! roadracing public roads is a damn sight different than flying around on a harley, you clod. fuck off.

  • Lovely stuff...nicely done.....many thanks. Incidentally; this year's Ulster was mind blowing! A lot of the hedgerows have been cut back these days but Cochranstown corner still looks much the same......and with much the same 'camera angle'!

  • @rickwriteoff

Hi Rick, good old Sam was one of the finest racers out of Ulster, a true diamond and could mix it with the best of them..

  • Anyone got some footage of the late great Sam McClements......

  • Fantastic!!!

  • I am old enough (52) and i`ve done this things my whole life . Today i was simply lucky to survive all my crashes ... and ride Harley , sorry .
