In all fairness, this excellent film score was co-written with Raymond Legrand but this theme has enough strange touches to assume that it was written by Nino Rota. The rest of the film uses Ondes Martenot (an early keyboard synthesizer) which lends it a definitely Fellinian sound.
@baracine The closest to this in Rota's contributions to films I think would be the start to Plein Soleil. He was pretty varied, but even the faint echoes in here are not enough to convince me now I know it was co-scored.
