However, as time went on, I can agree that Mankind saw a malicious and manipulative use of these beliefs, as you said. But even so, this use was simply incidental, not intentional.

@myapothyosis I agree that men created God (we've created literally thousands over the years), but I don't think it was necessarily for control. Men created God to explain that which they could not explain. Being that science was in it's infancy a few thousand years ago, men had evolved to the point that they were sure "something" must be responsible for the complexity in their environment, but had not the first clue what that "something " was. @Thediegmyster woah, you are wrong man, i don't know what liberal church you go to, but if someone is lied to, and told that they are christian, when powerful men create doctrine that goes against what jesus christ taught, when people believe something other than jesus died for our sins so we don't have to go to hell, and if you do not stand up and tell them the truth then you are turning your back on jesus and letting people go to hell. don't talk against the body of christ, go evangelize
