  • @AlwaysAbiggerFish Rickover is the father of the nuclear navy. He proposed building nuclear powered engines on submarines that could stay submerged and wouldn't need refueling for several years(5 or so). He was very eccentric and echewed the Military even though he was an Annapolis grad and obtained the rank of Admiral. A genius just like Michael.

  • @Babaziba You went a year without knowing who it was? Happy to hear you saw him perform. I was lucky enough to see him twice. The first time I saw him my date took me. I never heard of him, he could have been a horn player for all I new. So my experience was similar to yours driving, only I was in a seat watching him saying WTF this is unbelievable!

  • Wow. If you never had the chance to see Michael live, this video tells the whole story. Just amazing. Would put the audience in a trance.

He played guitar like someone who was a musical savant and had no idea how to make the thing work. He would put his whole being into it...would play the whole instrument, the sides, back, tuners...just great.

  • This was the first Hedges song I ever heard, on NPR at 2 AM on the way home from a gig. I pulled off the road and could not move except for tearing up. It was a year before I found out who it was, and then I saw him in an Orlando club....in those pants! LOL... what an amazing guy.

  • No, in my boot leg hedges jokes saying that there are so many Submarines and such that they should all get together and search the waters to learn more about the ocean. He says "And they can put telescopes in their torpedo tubes. He said it was dedicated to a Admiral who was an engerneering genius and he figured he could be the leader

  • I love the way that it just evanesces away into nothing at the end. The only other musical analogy I can think of offhand is "Neptune" from Holst's "The Planets".

  • This couldn't be more of a treat if it came with a cherry on top. Thanks for posting.

  • Admiral Rickover was a submarine guy and Baron Von Richthofen was the Red Baron. Could this song have been mistitled?

  • Absolutely love this guy--without a doubt one of the most original players I've seen...there is something very hauntingly beautiful, and mysterious within much of his music. Thanks very musch for posting this...

  • Floating through the strings... Great!
