Bridging the Generational Gap within Families and Communities

Women's Health Symposium: Rising to the Challenges of Being a Woman is designed to help community healthcare providers learn more about issues affecting Asian American women living in New York City. Topics will include suicide; cultural and communication differences within generations and youth discrimination. There will also be lively discussions focusing on pregnancy when diabetes, hepatitis B or HIV/AIDS is involved; health issues such as menopause, osteoporosis and lupus as well as a panel on what Asians may expect from President Obama's health care reform plan.

In our ongoing effort to represent the health concerns of Asian American populations such as Chinese, Korean, South Asian, Filipinos, Vietnamese and others, we have identified speakers whose outreach efforts within a particular community have proven successful. We hope their shared insight will inspire a spirited dialogue about how we can continue to build on maximizing the health care of Asian Americans.

We invite health care professionals, health educators, social service providers, students, advocates and individuals from the community to attend this symposium.
