When silly Gorbachev followed suit with Reagan's trickledown and sidesupply bullshit (designed to help his rich capitalist buddies steal from the American people), the already weak Soviet economy collapsed. The US is lucky Reagan came in the 80s when your economy was very strong, any other time you'd be screwed.
