Yes, and almost all the remakes have failed. Or are so far from the original premise that they dont even resemble the original. Lets hope they dont ruin Hogan's Heroes with another failed attempt.

In World War II everyone would have known of Bing Crosby and Bob Hope.

Great campy fun! (no pun intended). Yes, HH's cast is performing for Der Bingle (their boss) but it is common knowledge and well into the script. Robert Clary left me in stitches; and Bob Crane hoisting him off the stage was funny. These guys were having fun to the max and not letting their egos get in the way. John Banner & W. Klemperer are outrageous! Fun stuff for people who remember the era. Thanks for posting. Peace. bear.

Over the years, there have been alot of movies made based on old tv series. I wish a good, dramatic, suspenceful, and even funny ( without a laugh track) movie could be made about Hogan's Heroes!

Again, this IS superior TV!! to have the cast and its studio producer-actor Bing
Crosby,hosting HOLLYWOOD PALACE on ABC,from a CBS series,that made
quite a mark on the Tifany network,is RARE!! not suprising, since Bing Crosby
Productions was responsible for another hit ABC series-"BEN CASEY",also
shot at Desilu Studios.

What a rare suprise. The cool cast from Hogan's Heroes appears on The Hollywood Palace. a classic show from BCP productions the studio owned by.. Der Bingle himself. Both Col.Klink & SGT.Schultz are extremely funny.

Still the best show ever. Hogan's Heroes was greater than any other comedy series I can even IMAGINE. It just had three faults:
-Ivan Dixon quit
-Inconsistent character backstories
-It was cancelled after only six seasons
Other than that, I can firmly say that there has never been a better comedy show, and I extremely doubt there ever will be. Thanks for the video. :D

@Arkatox Ivan went on to become a successful producer. There just wasn't enough for him to do on HH, so he left. The cast did miss him very much and the new guy, though they liked him too, never really fit in.
I agree with you 100% about the inconsistent character back stories. All shows airing on CBS in the early 70s were canceled by the brass no matter what the ratings were.

@liarsclub75 The least they could've done is have an episode where Kinch escaped, so that they could explain why Baker replaced him. And an episode at the end that either ended WW2 or forced the HH crew to escape because the Gestapo caught on or something. Really, present-day series do that, why couldn't they do that for Hogan's Heroes?
Arkatox 1 year ago
@Arkatox Absolutely right. It was very lazy on the studio's part not to at least write Kinch out. Even a TV movie like they did with Gilligan's Island (they would have needed financial backing though) to close the show properly.
In the 70s, there was a plan for a TV show that was supposed to be a continuation of HH, where the main character's children were involved with the cold war. Larry Hovis started writing for it, but the project was scrapped after Bob Crane's murder.

Thank you for this clip. It is priceless. I'm surprised that this did not make any of the DVD sets as an added bonus. By the way, did Hogan's Heroes ever have an extensive blooper reel? (longer than the brief bloopers featured on one of the DVD sets) Would love to see 20-30 minutes of outtakes.

I don't know about any blooper reel. I guess just the stuff on the DVDs. Larry never mentioned anything about it but them again he didn't know about the Laugh- In blooper tape.
