President Obama announced Wednesday that the US will position 2,500 Marines in Australia. According to Obama this is a top priority for the US but Beijing didn't welcome the move with open arms. China believes this transfer of power by Obama is an attempt to escalate military tensions in the region. The agreement between Obama and Prime Minister Julia Gillard marks the first long-term expansion of the military presence since the end of the Vietnam War. Donna Mulhearn, a peace activist, gives us her take on the move and tells us what it means for the region.

  • Both these women have no clue about the subject. Pine Gap is vital for both our countries, is joint owned and run by AUS/USA. Read the facts, look at the history books, more joint bases are good for both countries.

  • AMERICA WELCOME ! WE LOVBE YOU !

and don´t forget to bring nuke arsenal with you cos you might need it soon !

  • @PR0GRAMMING i see the joke with the name programming and the statement. clever.

  • @Y4nk33Do0dl3D4nd33 i didnt you knew the japanese attack plan of WW2. we stopped the japanese at kokoda. the us screwed the world with their subprime mortgages because the govt agency licenced credit rating agencies did a shit job. The US gave faulty info on the WMDs and the gulf of tonkin situation. your govt. our country, don't have people molestating adults and children at the airports. You going to bring that shit here too?

  • @ThePrincessGabrielle You'd be speaking Japanese if it weren't for the US and the UK. You've never had to support a big army until recently. The Brits for the 1800's and now the US.

  • The Royal Navy protected Aussie for almost 120 years---free!!--on the taxes of the pommie bastards as you call them! Why are we sending Marines?! Why don't the Beach Boys at Bonds join up to defend their country???

  • Is she slow?

  • @MrDakadaka:"... besides Americans are nice people a bit dumb but still nice..."

priceless :-); To be fair, there are also many great minds in America, in all spheres of life, from science to art; When you think about it, most of the best things on youtube come from the USA. On the other hand, wherever USA goes, to which ever part of the world, it leaves behind a trail of total and utter and ever-lasting destruction: material, financial and one that is not often thought of - social.

  • @mtrinhy I think its a perception, They hate Iran but they attacked iran rival iraq and distroyed dictatorship, saddam was faulty, he was the one who spread false info to even with iran, just imagine if that was true how many innocent lives would be in danger. US did that they can, other nation like our could only dream about that.

  • @kickassdj Well for 1. The US has started many wars. The war in Iraq happened because they claim there were WMD. Where are those WMD? Were there any to begin with? None. 2. They are really shady. e.g. what they just did to Australia is lock them in as a target if a war in Asia Pacific was to happen. 3. They bully smaller countries to comply with them through "diplomacy" if they refuse, they send jackals after them, or make up some crap about the country and send their military in.
