Water gilding a frame sample of C&J Frame number M114 in 22k gold leaf. The finish is French Pale with yellow clay and red highlights. Click here to see how it comes out: http://www.cjframes.com/mt20.jpg
A lot of people ask about the cutter. It's a pinky blade made from an aluminum can and taped to the finger using masking tape. Each gilder has a different one that he feels comfortable with. They are sharpened with fine sand paper.
What size are you using? the usual water/isoprop alcohol/glue would not settle so immediatly in all the nooks and crannies like your demo-size details please....
what is the gilder using to cut the leaf - is this a blade or his fingernail? Also love the way he tamps with the tip - never seen that in any book!

It is the normal mixture. I don't know what you mean. If the surface preparation is good there should be no problems.
