Yosemite Fire Dept ready to receive a rescue helicopter near the Ahwanee hotel.

Long version: We had left Yosemite Valley and were making one last stop at Artist's Point. I took a picture of my little cousin when I realized that Half Dome was in a cloud of dust. A large rock slide had just occurred and I realized that someone may have just died. We drove back to the valley, but everyone we talked to at Curry Village hadn't even heard anything. We stopped by the Yosemite Lodge Fire Station and found the firefighters putting on their gear, stating that the helicopter was checking for victims. We drove up to the Awhanee (like one minute away) and as we came back, I took this video.)

  • For those who may have missed it, Engine 51 is now back here and in quarters at the Los Angeles County Fire Department museum.

The firefighters there say that the folks in Yosemite have taken very good care of her.

Can't wait to get out there to see the engine and squad together!

  • Thanks for the update!!

  • I was just reading about that. How cool is that? I wish someone would buy them a new one so they can send it back to the LA Co. Fire Museum before anything happens to it.

  • I agree, and they could use the type of engine that CalFire has, that handles off-road and brush fires. With Yosemite's mountains, it seems like a bad place to have a vintage engine in regular service.

  • U got emergency engine 51

  • @wldfire29 a pierce. I believe its a 80s or 90s. look at the video on my channel.

  • They got a 80's-90's pierce engine to replace 51, its got good horsepower and all. I have a video of it on my channel so check it out.

  • I love those old Ward La France Engines!! Especially this historic one!!

  • What is the park getting?

  • You GOT to get this truck responding to a call with the Q blasting for all it's worth before the truck goes.

  • She's being retired in a couple of weeks to be reunited with the squad. I live in the park and a fan of the show.

  • ol' Engine 51 isn't due to retire for a few years yet, I think. They should put it out to pasture, and rejoin it with the Squad.
