Hall-of-fame singer-songwriter, Chet Nichols, performs his famous song, "I'm The Ice Cream Man" at Charlies in Wilmette, Il. Oddly enough, Chet composed this song back in 1962 when he worked as a busboy at an ice cream shop a few doors down from Charlies. The ice cream parlor was the first place Chet performed and performed as a solo artist. This song "morphed" over the years and back in the late 60's and 70's, when Chet was on tour with The Airplane, Jethro Tull, Poco and many others, "The Ice Cream Man" became an anthem for that period.
For those interested, Chet has a retro album, "Black & White", which is a live-recording of one of his shows where he performed solo at the famous Cowtown Ballroom in Kansas City back in 1972. This live recording contains the "live" version of "Ice Cream Man" from that era. It is a lot of fun and will bring back memories. You can check it out at iTunes and most other online music stores. Pick up the song or the whole CD at Chet's site.
