Actually, Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page all helped pay for Ronnie Lane's care over the years. Lane lost a lot of money on his mobile studio and traveling "music circus" after he quit the Faces. It was his own undoing.

this is such an amazing clip. you could argue that this is the end of something ... the peak of the thing that started somewhere between Big Joe Turner and Chuck Berry. This is just so casual and so beautiful and so perfect. Despite Woody turning in a complete mess on his solos. maybe Rod had only ridiculousness left to chase after a peak this high.
