Love him or loathe him, Alex Salmond has been a towering figure in Scottish politics for 25 years.
Former Conservative Minister, Michael Portillo, wants to know the story behind the politician, and what has made him one of the most succesful and recognisible Scottish politicians in the world.

Following the 2011 Scottish election campaign, Portillo on Salmond covers four of the most important weeks in Alex Salmond's life, as he attempts to make history and become First Minister for a second term.

Throughout the campaign and across Scotland, the film watches Alex Salmond take his message to the streets and across the airwaves. But who exactly is he? And what lies ahead for the leader, his party and the country?

  • LOL, "not the kind of place that looks like a safe Tory seat"

  • I <3 Alex Salmond

  • was this broadcast on tv?...thanks for posting as was really looking forward to watching...salmond is the proper statesman that needs to take scotland forward

  • I thought this an incredibly shallow piece of television. A travel log with some cursory attempts at Alex's CV. I don't even find Portillo intelligent. A wasted opportunity with little insight. And much as I admire Alex why should we be reduced to England's obsession with personality politics. All more reasons to vote yes and get away entirely from England's world view.

  • Thanks for posting! I was looking forward to watching this but then totally forgot until after it'd finished
