Scene from the Zdenek Mahler miniserie "Strauss Dynasty" (1990)

The waltz originally had an accompanying song text written by Josef Weyl. Strauss adapted it into a purely orchestral version for the World's Fair in Paris that same year, and it became a great success in this form. The instrumental version is by far the most commonly performed today.

  • I remember watching this movie in black and white on "Million Dollar Movie" on channel 9 i(they played the same movie for a week, twice a day) in New York City in 1962, after I had my tonsils revoved.

What is the exact name of the movie and is it available on DVD?

  • @JohannStraussSohn

There is - to me - an obvious choice to play Johann Strauss Sohn in any new series/ movie about the great man. Andre Rieu. He lives and breathes this music, bringing a zest of life to it that more "serious" orchestras could never do. Still, I enjoyed the New Years Day concert from Vienna, though.

  • @rhanna12

Absolutely. I watched it as a child when it was first broadcast in the early 1970s, and was thrilled when it became available on vdeo/DVD.

For Strauss fans (such as myself), a good read is the book, also titled "The Strauss Family" (nothing to do with the TV series) by Peter Kemp.

  • @Gulivar it's 'Can Can - Jacques Offenbach' ;)

  • What is that tune just before he starts the Blue Danube waltz?

  • After watching the whole movie I have to lessen my comment I wrote a year ago. Or let me say I have to reduce it only on this scene .. the acting of a conducter is really bad but he did good job in the rest of the film! I liked watching it very much :)

  • Have you checked out the Strauss Family dvd?

Stuart Wilson is absolutely wonderful in playing the young Strauss!

  • Bravo, maravilloso...

Es mi parte favorita de la miniserie, es grandioso como el publico se maravilla al oir al Danubio Azul, jejeje opacando si querer a Offenbach jajaja

  • Check my chanel! ...uploading "strauss Dynasty"
