I remember watching this movie in black and white on "Million Dollar Movie" on channel 9 i(they played the same movie for a week, twice a day) in New York City in 1962, after I had my tonsils revoved.
What is the exact name of the movie and is it available on DVD?

There is - to me - an obvious choice to play Johann Strauss Sohn in any new series/ movie about the great man. Andre Rieu. He lives and breathes this music, bringing a zest of life to it that more "serious" orchestras could never do. Still, I enjoyed the New Years Day concert from Vienna, though.

Absolutely. I watched it as a child when it was first broadcast in the early 1970s, and was thrilled when it became available on vdeo/DVD.
For Strauss fans (such as myself), a good read is the book, also titled "The Strauss Family" (nothing to do with the TV series) by Peter Kemp.

@Gulivar it's 'Can Can - Jacques Offenbach' ;)

What is that tune just before he starts the Blue Danube waltz?

After watching the whole movie I have to lessen my comment I wrote a year ago. Or let me say I have to reduce it only on this scene .. the acting of a conducter is really bad but he did good job in the rest of the film! I liked watching it very much :)

Stuart Wilson is absolutely wonderful in playing the young Strauss!
