One of the true icons of the Galápagos, the medium ground finch (Geospiza fortis). Made famous by the thorough studies of David Lack and Peter and Rosemary Grant; the medium ground finches of Galápagos is a prime example of how short term evolutionary adaptations can arise driven by environmental changes. We found this one foraging adjacently to another famous figure of the Galápagos Islands - and the world's loneliest bachelor - namely Lonesome George.

Et av de virkelig store ikonene på Galápagos, mellomjordspurv (Geospiza fortis). Velkjent gjennom de nitide forskningen til David Lack og Peter and Rosemary Grant; mellomjordspurven er et godt eksempel på hvordan evolusjonære tilpasninger som respons på miljøendringer kan oppstå i løpet av kort tid. Vi fant denne rett ved siden av innhegningen til en annen kjent skikkelse på Galápagos - og verdens ensligste ungkar - nemlig Lonsesome George.
