  • i have airtabs on my pickup truck while they quited the air noise in the truck and seemes to be more resistant to cross winds they didnt do anything for fuel mileage

  • Not really surprised. Head to the EcoModder aerodynamics subforum and you can see a test I did on a minivan with them. Zero effect on fuel consumption.

  • @chamanullah Vortex generator generate a typical 10% increase in lift on airplane, and a 50% decrease in drag, however, you have to go at a significan speed for them to work (over100kph). Increased lift is not always wanted in aviation because it slow you down and increase load on the structure. Airliners are moreoften fitted with winglets which generate less drag and turbulence with no real impact on the plane flying characteristic

  • @chamanullah increase in lift by 30 %????? Sounds dangerous

  • Well done. The evidence of VG function doesn't get much clearer than that(...unless you DON'T know what you're looking at).

  • @nikan4now

Yes vortex generators prevent boundary layer separation and result in an increase in lift by about 30 %. And since they prevent flow separation you can say that they result in reduced form drag. How much reduction I have no idea. :)

  • bunch of sperm lols

  • If you want to increase your mpg, just follow this lol.

    1. Have proper tire pressure

    2. Drive slow !!

Aerodynamics only start to kick in hardcore and increase drag and decrease mpg at high speeds so keep the Velocity down and you are good :)

  • @nikan4now yes they create a vortex, reducing flow separation. also used on aircraft wings to delay stall. they are mostly used to delay stall on aircraft, but can also reduce drag.

  • Could someone please explain how vortex generators reduce drag ? Do they prevent flow separation
