Unusual Canada Goose Nest

Take a good close look at where this goose chose to have her nest. She took over an osprey nest. Shot near Clatskanie, OR on 4/14/07.

Funny enough, after I shot this, I noticed this wasn't the only goose that did this. It's a secure area which means if a person did remove it, someone should have known about it unless they came in from the river. You are right though. It is quite illegal to mess with a nest with eggs in it.

Since I shot this, both the geese and the nest have disappeared. We're unsure what happened, it would have interesting to watch the chicks try to get out of there.

Wow! That mom really wanted her privacy, didn't she? She must have had problems with predators in the past and built her nest in the place she thought no one could get to her. If the geese AND THE NEST have disappeared it is likely that your forestry department removed the family...which, by the way, is illegal. So if they did it, it better have been for the safety of the family.
