Joseph Plunkett & Grace Gifford

After the Rising, the leaders were condemned to death by firing squad. When Grace knew that Joseph was due to be shot on 4 May, she bought a wedding ring in a jewellers shop in Dublin city centre. She and Joseph were married on the night of 3 May in the chapel of Kilmainham Jail, only a few hours before he was executed.

Great video. Upon visiting Kilmainham for the first time I was surprised to learn that this beautiful song is based on fact. One question: explain the meaning of the line "I loved so much that I could see his blood upon the rose." Not clear to me what this means or refers to.
