  • I was a chorister back in the 80's and I recall a week long choir camp with Barry Rose in Montreal... to say he was demanding is an understatement.

  • Did you enjoy it? Which choir was that (St Albans, Guildford... or another one??)

  • Oh, so that's how you pronounce his name!

  • :-) That's what I thought too when I heard it.

  • I know! You expect some grand technical explanation, but it turns out it's all simple little tricks. The one that fascinated me most was imaging singing down into something deep when going for the high notes... the opposite of what you might expect. I can sort of imagine that.

  • Of course, we should not expect grandiose details of vocal technique in a 7 minute video! The subject is covered in a very tidy way time-wise, but manages to cover a bit of the important elements of vocal technique, Young Charles looks petrified at being asked to sing his little bit.

  • King's is spoiled by their echo. That seemed a bit lost without it when I heard them in a normal concert hall.

  • 4:58 Good grief, would you listen to that ECHO!!!!!

    Amazing resonance!

  • As an ex-chorister myself at a cathedral, I know how demanding it was too. It was an amazing experience, though. I feel blessed to have been apart of it.

  • barry rose!!!!

  • i am blackburn cathedral in blackburn england and i have done a practice with barry rose he is amazing trust me LOL

  • I used to pop into St. Paul's to watch Barry Rose doing choir rehearsals.

There was a remarkable atmosphere and you could see that Barry put his stamp of quality on that choir during his stay there.

The boys reacted to him in an extraordinary manner and their sense of commitment was palpable to all who heard them.

His love for choir singing shone through at every moment.

To be honest, very few have achieved his level of dedication to the art.

Simply put, he is one of my heroes.

  • i did 5 years under barry rose at st. pauls cathedral, and he is without a doubt the best in his field. an awkward bugger, very demanding, but he WILL get the best out of you. his reputation is well deserved.

  • Dr. Rose has worked with my choir on several occasions - choir festivals and our tours to Great Britain mostly. He's amazing but demanding... he threatened to throw a hymnal at my friend once. xD

  • Bazza Rose - top geezer. I went to school with his son Tim (we went up to the Bridge at weekends and got in wome well good rucks)!
