  • A majority of the reason why there were so many survivors from this flight was because of the preparation and emergency training Sioux Airport did. Sioux Airport was initially a small airport seeing very sparse commercial traffic. but the airport manager there decided to practice training for larger emergencies of aircraft w/ over 150 pax. There were over 100 organizations involved with the rescue efforts from a span of over three counties. So kudos to the airport and the rescuers at that

  • @Twelaal you mean reverse thrust? Check out Lauda Air Flight 004 to see what inflight development of reverse thrust leads to.

  • its Seconds From Disaster Crash Landing at Sioux City

  • Whats with the dice?

  • The original series was entitled "Mayday" before they changed it to the present name.

  • @Twelaal You are very incorrect. The reason they were using the throttles for control — to begin with — was because the aircraft was in the process of performing a left turn when the #2 engine failed. They lost hydraulics and the control surfaces (whatever configuration they were in at that time) became locked/frozen in place. The only way to counter the left turn was to use engine thrust. If they pilots had done what you suggested, they would have lost control of the aircraft and crashed.

  • I'd want this crew whatever the situation is.

  • @Twelaal Ha ha, just a pity you weren't aboard to help them

  • Hey "Twelaal", are you type rated in the DC-10? Or don't you know what that means as you seem to know how to fly a 10.

  • I saw the news footage of the crash of this plane and I gotta tell you that I was watching a nightmare right before my very eyes. This plane wreck was one of the horrific air disasters I had ever witnessed. I didn't even have to see it in person, just by observing it on TV was so vivid and so surreal that it didn't matter whether I was looking at it in person or not. It's a miracle that this man is still alive and breathing to tell his story when helping to fly this plane. God bless Dennis Fitch
