Call of Duty: Black Ops - Shotgun Practice

So I thought I'd change my play-style a little bit as I was beginning to get a little bored of repeatedly coming 1'st over and over again in the server I was on. Over time people came and went, hacks were accused of, and I hoped for someone to come in who would at least give me a run for my money. Someone on the opposing team, or even someone on my own team who I could compete scores with. Alas, this never happened, but I digress.

tl;dr - got bored, had fun with shotgun. try it


I decided to challenge myself by using a shotgun class, preferably one with the smallest clip size. The 'Olympia' was chosen...
My god I had so much fun, even more so than with a standard weapon! No longer could I have epic stand-off's from across the map with an AR/snipe. No longer could I mow down 3 people who may or may not be in my sights. I had to force myself to think differently about each and every situation and; essentially, change my play style completely.

I saw on the radar, two enemies across the barn I was in, pinning me down inside waiting for me to come out. With no stun grenades or normal grenades, I had to approach this differently. I waited for the UAV to refresh to see if they move or not, but no. I knew the only other way to escape the barn was behind me, but that wasn't really an option in my eyes. I had previously killed someone who was using the crossbow and saw it on the floor just near the opening. I weighed out my options and quickly went through each outcome in my head, I chose what I thought was best.
I picked out the sniper with the crossbow, waited for the explosion, picked my shotgun back up and used the (non-existent) smoke from the explosion as cover. I rushed the second sniper as he was reloading and put him down with the shotgun. Success! Only now a third guy had shown up.
Now at this point I thought I had the shotgun and my pistol again, as normal. I was somewhat shocked when I tried to pull my pistol out and a huge (empty) crossbow came out instead. I ended up doing the only thing I could at that point and mashed the melee button! Of course I ended up dead, but I got him back with last stand (or whatever the hell its called in this game).

It's moments like that that make me smile. Making you think on your toes when the odds are against you ten-fold, then you coming out on top (kind of), is a good feeling to receive. This is one of many short encounters with the shotgun I had during my night of playing with it, and quite frankly, loved it!
Next time you get bored, try it. (also if you did read all of that and didn't skip to the end, fair play to you xD)

Would you say using the CZ Extended Mags is better than dual wield? I'm still tinkering with my secondary to get the best out of it.

@WhiteSharkUK well I can't really say yes or no because I've not used the akimbo ASP's much, but I'd say yes if I had to give an answer. As you can't aim down the sights while using akimbo you dont get 'as much' accuracy as using one gun that you can aim with. CZ+extended has 18 in a clip, thats more than 2 ASP's, so you will be getting more ammo + more accuracy. You just ahve to be able to have a fast trigger finger as you dont have the luxury of using two fingers to fire.

You rock. I love using shotties. My main is the single HS10 - Love that one. However, recently been using the Olympia and it rocks. If I don't kill on the first two shots, I quickly switch to my akimbo Asps which finish the job.

@WhiteSharkUK cheers! using shotguns is really fun, changes the game up. I only use the CZ extended mags because of the huge clip size and fast fire rates. Turns the missed shots or hit-markers into kills.

Since this however I've been using the CZ as a primary... after playing the game for awhile i needed something to keep it fresh. coincidentally im currently uploading a video of me using the CZ as a primary. should be up soon, then hopefully some montage of the CZ of some description.

i fucking love the olympia! it is so fun to use, it is by far the most enjoyable gun, im a 13th prestige and i cant wait to buy it golden next prestige! if you had xbox we would olympia it up but unfortunately you have pc

My first life in this game i ran around with that shotgun and got six or seven kills and then got the death machine in my care package.
