@MexxPowers Requiescat In Pace (R.I.P.) literally means Rest In Peace. I´d say the resting means the resting place of the body, and the peace means "without disturbance".
One would probably be in peace in a heaven, but why would a non material being need rest?
Therefor I find it logical to believe that the phrase is directed to the physical body.

Good question, I think it is directed at the afterlife because there one finds peace after a life of torment, AKA heaven. Graverobbers could also be included, but not neccesarly.
