2008 Pacific Games 10 Boys High Jump- Slow motion from 1.35m.
Great to see ALL flop jumping ! Not a scissors to be seen. I guess some other States jumpers won't be going to Little Athletics as their LA Associations ban flopping. Very silly notion as boys LOVE high jumping ! Also, permitting Under 9 to do hurdles is far more dangerous than high jump. I have yet to see any BOYS get injured at high jumps, but quite a few attempting hurdles.
Keep going boys. You are ALL good floppers. Thank your coach for teaching you how to high jump properly !

  • I have reposted a couple of older videos in better HD format. Not actually HD but Googles computer does not know that.

The videos emphasize warming up, stretching and sprint work I get the boys to do.

    Hope helps

  • Looks like Google had trouble with HD videos on YouTube. Back to normal.

Hope you enjoy Kiwi boys, looked very good jumpers !

  • Trans Tasman ready but lousy quality. Don't know why.

I will try again when I can.

    Thanks for interest,

  • Thanks Ernie, did you happen to get any of the girls' high jump from PSG? I would love to check out the competition :) We have some good HJ coaches in NZ, but the standard of the event is still quite low at present, with a few exceptions.

  • Sorry, it is becoming increasingly difficult to video ANY kids events in Australia. Teachers are running scared about ANYONE, even parents taking video shots of their kids at school events. This child protection nonsense is just gone overboard at the moment.

I even got banned from taking videos of the 14 year boys high jump at the Pacific Games because some dim witted parent objected. Sorry, videoing girls is just impossible.

    That is life< I guess.

  • I had a 12 year boy in 2005 Trans Tasman. He came second on count back with H. Wells from Auckland. This is the last time he did Little Athletics. Why? We just lose so many great high jumpers at 13 years old. I put it down to boredom of Little Athletics combined with "testosterone poisoning"

I will upload condensed version within a few days. Hope you may be able to share it with other interested people across the Tasman !

Do the higher level school competitions equivalent to our zones, regions and states. prohibit flopping ? If this were the case in NSW, I would get my boys to train scissors and flop.

Even in previous Trans Tasman competitions, I have seen some beautiful flop jumpers from New Zealand. These boys must have learnt the technique from a high jump coach in New Zealand. I think I have uploaded a Trans Tasman competition, I will check.

  • YouTube seems to have down graded older videos I posted before 2008, particularly those I took with a avi camera. I am uploading a video with two of my 10 year old boys taken in 2008. I don't mind constructive comments, others I always delete.

I was just revisiting Thibaut's first primary school Region competition. Certainly did not look any more talented than other boys. However, he is very body aware and learnt very quickly. He is also a very talented basketball player.

  • Hey the other thing I wanted to say was that I am not criticizing these boys, they jump beautifully and are a pleasure to watch. I love that we are all passionate about this event and both want them to stay in it and thrive. I have been on the end of the "no flop" rule here in NZ where schools do not allow it. My daughter flopped at 12 and lost the school finals to someone she usually beats by 15cm because it was a scissors comp. I would love to share more ideas about HJ, we both love it
